Hello, I have been a FE tutor since 2015. I have a vast knowledge of Functional Skills and Employability Skills and I’m looking forward to sharing my resources with you. I noticed there is a lack of resources and help for FE tutors and I plan to help change that! I have a further education Instagram where I post motivation and talk about my experiences, so please have a look @theteachernest 📚📝📖

Origami Team Building Exercise

I have used this activity many times with a range of students of all ages and it always works well. I have recently updated the style of it. Working in groups or pairs, one learner will describe the origami instructions to the other learner/s, the other learners will make the origami which is being described to them. The learners making the origami will not get to see what they are making which means the ones doing the describing really have to work on their communication skills, At the end of the task they can reflect on how well the task went. This is a fun activity which works on team building and communication skills. You will need to provide square pieces of paper to your learners for this task. For best results and to stop having to reprint, I recommend laminating the origami instructions! This activity can last as long as you want it to last, I usually let the students take turns in being the instructor or the maker. Have fun with this lesson and let me know how it goes by leaving a review, I would be very grateful! :)

Egg Parachute Team Building

This is an entire lesson for an egg parachute team building activity. You can change the resources to suit your own needs. In this activity learners will work together to construct a parachute for an egg (Boiled preferably but you can also use chocolate eggs or plastic eggs) The parachute must softly land to the floor and the egg must not crack. Its a great activity to get learners working together and there is usually an element of competition to have the best parachute. Everything you need is in this pack from the worksheets, PowerPoint and lesson plan.

This activity will need you to have supplies, cups, ping pong balls, string, tape, scissors etc. This is a great activity using team building skills, balance and logical thinking. It really gets learners up and off their seats and concentrating on the task in hand. I have printed my instruction sheets off on bright green card to look like toxic waste. Activity also comes with a summary sheet.

Moon Survival for Visual Learners

I have used this Moon Survival activity since I became a teacher, it was originally from another source but my problem with the original activity was that it is too wordy, and my learners are often more visual learners. In the past I resorted to printing out pictures of the different items for my learners to look at them on their tables. Recently I decided to draw my own graphics for each of the items and truly make it my own. I think it now looks more professional and put together. I have since used these resources with a number of different classes and all enjoyed the activity and the pictures. Its a great team building activity and a way to get learners talking to each other about each of the objects. These images are intended to be laminated and cut out so they can be used time and time again.
